Mrs. Perry's Love for her Kindergarteners

Hello! My name is Laura Perry, I’m currently a kindergarten teacher at Tri-City Christian School. I have been a kindergarten assistant for 12 years and a pre-kindergarten assistant for one year. I’m happily married to my husband Wallace of 22 years. We have two kids, Katie and Zach. Katie is a sophomore in high school at Tri-City and Zach is a film major attending UNC School of the Arts. Our family also attends Discovery Church in Newton.

Throughout my years serving in education, it is so apparent that each child has a different learning style that works best for them. To help me be more efficient in helping each child succeed, I became certified in the Orton-Gillingham program. The program is designed to help students who have different learning needs. What may work for one child might not be the best path for another. But every child is capable of learning. Some children may be a visual learner while others work best kinesthetically or auditorily. Orton-Gillingham has helped enable teachers to become more effective and adapt to the required learning style. Children process and distinguish information differently, especially in the early years of education, I hope to see and understand how to best address the learning needs of my students. Each student is blessed with their own special talents and gifts. I try to use fun, creative ways to help my students learn the objective.

Ephesians 2:10 says “You are God's masterpiece.” Kindergarten is an exciting year of learning a lot of firsts and going on new adventures. New experiences can seem scary to everyone, but I hope to instill confidence and guide them closer to their journey with God. “You are beautiful for you are fearfully and wonderfully made” Psalm 139:14.
